- What will happen to the development of semiconductor supply chain in 2019? Recently, international e-business analysts and industry veterans discussed some of the most concerned topics
In 2018, Sino US trade frictions played a part in the tariff war. The whole industrial chain of the middle and lower reaches was a howl. The global smart phone market began to weaken, and Apple’s single supplier’s disaster was hit by high hopes. 5G, the first year of large-scale commercial and autopilot, has not yet arrived. However, some industry colleagues believe that the tension between China and the United States has also brought more opportunities to the supply chain, and the voice of "domestic substitution" is also growing.
In this context, what will happen to the development of semiconductor supply chain in 2019? Recently, international e-business analysts and industry veterans discussed some of the most concerned topics.
Focus on "domestic substitution"
China has always been a big demand country for semiconductor chips, but domestic chip manufacturers are unable to meet the needs of the internal market. Every year, China imports trillions of chips. According to the forecast industry research institute, China’s semiconductor market demand will increase from $213 billion to $262 billion in 2017-2020, CAGR to 7.15%, and the semiconductor self supply rate is expected to increase from 11.20% to 15%. However, 85% of the demand is still dependent on imports.
At the same time of high dependence on imported chips, new changes have taken place in China’s market environment. Since the tension between China and the United States has been highlighted, and the ZTE incident has aroused the national pride of Chinese people, "domestic substitution" has attracted more and more attention. Some people in the supply chain call on enterprises to actively innovate and enhance their strength so as to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
However, while bringing opportunities, domestic supply chain enterprises are also facing more challenges. How to meet the end-user demand for capacity, performance, technology and other aspects is the pain point that supply chain enterprises need to solve.
Wan Wei, vice president of core Sea Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd
Wan Wei, vice president of core Sea Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., believes that the Sino US trade war has both opportunities and challenges for domestic MCU design enterprises. Although the cost of MCU in mobile phone, industrial control, automotive electronics, everyone’s electricity and other high-end applications is not high, but it is the core component, which is very important to the function, performance and quality of products. Therefore, enterprises prefer to use imported MCU products. The ZTE incident and the Sino US trade war made everyone realize the importance of a complete independent industrial chain, and began to focus on "domestic substitution" and try domestic MCU. However, at present, domestic MCU is mainly used in consumer electronics and other fields with relatively low quality requirements. Compared with similar products abroad, there is still a gap in quality, which is one of the main obstacles of "domestic substitution".
Dr. Xu Gang, general manager of Shanghai Juwei integrated circuit Co., Ltd., has more profound views on "domestic substitution". "Domestic substitution" is not simply to replace the imported products with the same function with the products with lower price, but to provide the products with better quality and closer to the market demand on the premise of meeting the same function. The ideal "domestic substitution" will not only replace the existing products, but also upgrade the existing market. "
In fact, "domestic substitution" is not a simple slogan, and this wind is not only blowing in the semiconductor industry. At present, all industries closely related to the whole people’s clothing, food, housing and transportation, from cosmetics and skin care industry to semiconductor industry, are calling for "domestic substitution". It also reflects that China’s economy is facing a comprehensive transformation from an ordinary "maker" to a unique "creator". It can also be predicted that domestic brands in all walks of life have great opportunities, but how to make full use of this opportunity? It’s worth thinking about.
Which areas will be more concerned in the future?
Junzhi ITO, marketing director of Murata (China) Investment Co., Ltd
Aside from the mature smartphone market, 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), new energy vehicles, autopilot and other fields will be a trillion level market. At present, 5G has not yet been commercially available. The development of AI and new energy vehicles has just started. The first year of autopilot is yet to come. Which emerging industries do semiconductor supply chain enterprises value more? In this regard, Mr. ITO Junzhi, marketing director of Murata (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Mr. Li Zhou, vice president of sales of Maxim integrated Greater China and South Asia Pacific region, and Dr. Ju Weixu shared their views.
Although the number of smart phones has grown steadily in recent years, the number of electronic components on a single mobile phone is growing rapidly due to the multi-functional products, ITO said. In addition, the introduction of 5g promotes the high-speed and high-performance communication. It is expected that the communication field will continue to develop in the future and become the business pillar of Murata.
In addition, the automobile industry will change thousands of times. With the development of electric, intelligent and networked vehicles, the electronic technology of vehicles is gradually mature and the concept of safe driving is increasingly popular. The number of electronic components used in a single vehicle has increased significantly.
With the further development of smart phones and automobile electronics, the trend of the Internet of things (IOT) society also deserves attention. In the future IOT society, all kinds of products can be connected to the Internet. As the IOT network becomes larger, the number of devices connected to the network will increase significantly. In order to create new value, people use base stations, servers and AI to process and save data. The demand for data analysis will reach an unprecedented level. At the same time, the demand for relevant
